Many writers consider it bad form to use apostrophe -s possessives with pieces of furniture and buildings or inanimate objects in general. Instead of 'the desk's edge' (according to many authorities), we should write 'the edge of the desk' and instead of 'the hotel's windows' we should write 'the windows of the hotel.'

Barrel Length: 4”, Pinned with shrouded ejector rod and solid, serrated rib.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a ramped blade with a translucent pink insert, it is set on a serrated elevated base that is integral to the rib, which is serrated for glare reduction. Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some swirl marks and light streaks from use and storage. There are some scattered scuffs, some have caused smooth spots. Some of the most noticeable scuffs are on the cylinder and on the barrel towards the front. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly worn with strong slots. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrel is pinned and the chambers are recessed. The lockup produces minor side-to-side movement. The double action is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a non-original S&W box and a manual.

Our Assessment: The Model 66 is, essentially, a stainless steel version of the Model 19. This example, with its pinned 4? barrel and adjustable sights gives the Model 19’s balance of size, precision, and power and also makes it more corrosion resistant and appealing to those who prefer the look of stainless steel. This one has seen light use and has a great bore and mechanics, it ought to make for a fine recreational or defensive wheel gun for one lucky winner. Please see our photos and good luck!

Type of Finish: Stainless Steel
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are some scattered light scuffs and scratches, the most notable on the left of the barrel. The cylinder has a thin, light turn-line and some carbon fouling at the front. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly in both single and double action. The single action trigger breaks very crisply and the double action trigger is smooth. Our Assessment: This S&W .357 Magnum revolver with heavy 3” barrel is a true service handgun. It could be carried openly or concealed. It could serve well for home defense, and as such, would also be suitable for IDPA competition. It is a solid six shot double action revolver that can accept a wide variety of ammunition, everything from light .38 Special wadcutters to heavy .357 Magnum hollow points. This gun should provide the successful bidder with a lifetime of service. Interestingly, this revolver is a transitional model. The frame is marked “65-2” and the serial number places its production in 1981, however it has a mix of features from the 65-2, the recessed chambers on its cylinder, and of the 65-3, its barrel not being pinned. It appears that this frame was produced in 1981 but final assembly was performed in 1982 after the pinned barrel was removed from the assembly process but before they ran out of cylinders with recessed chambers. For this reason, it may have special interest for Smith collectors, as well. Please see our photos and good luck!
